Video Tips: Home Medical Modifications – Is It Deductible?

Published July 7, 2025

Certain home modification expenses can qualify as medical deductions if they are primarily for the medical care of the taxpayer, spouse, or dependent. These expenses must relate to the diagnosis, cure, mitigation, treatment, or prevention of disease, or affect any part or function of the body. The key to qualifying is that the expenses are primarily for medical reasons and not for general home improvement or aesthetic purposes.
